Why Hire A Professional?

It’s been estimated that a significant amount of paint purchases result from people correcting mistakes they made choosing the wrong color starting out. The cost of new paint and the labor involved can be avoided if the color selection is done right the first time. A professional color consultant will help you save time and money by putting together a palette that will make your home look sensational.

The Many Shades of WHITE

When you describe a paint color as “white”, you are not getting a true read on the tone. There are pure whites, off-whites, creams and tinted whites. It all has to do with the undertones.

For example, a white paint chip may have blue or gray undertones. Perhaps it has yellow or green undertones. One of the best ways to figure it out is to put the paint chip on top of a pure white dinner plate. This helps to isolate the color with a reference point in the background.

Getting your whites right is the first step in creating a new color palette for your home. If you tend to have earth tones, for example, the best white to use is either a cream or off-white.

What is the 60-30-10 Rule?

To achieve balance and simplicity in your decorating, there are recommended percentages of the amounts of color to use. The biggest percentage (60) is usually for the walls, rugs or large accent pieces. This 60% anchors the space.

30% (the secondary color) can be in things like draperies, accent chairs, painted furniture or perhaps an accent wall.

The final 10% of color is for the accents like throw pillows, artwork, and accessories.

Rules are made to be broken but this 60-30-10 ratio is a timeless decorating scale.

A professional color consultant will  bring it all together for you!
